Welcome to Agent Beat. It's Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Here's what's happening in how AI finds brands and how agents choose what to buy.
A new report built on Similarweb panel data breaks down ChatGPT ad click-through rates by market. The report says the rate topped 1 percent in four markets, but not in the United States. The same report tracks how often the top ChatGPT advertisers changed. For marketers buying ChatGPT ads, the advice is to compare click rates market by market instead of assuming U.S. performance carries over, and to expect the list of top advertisers to keep turning over.
Monitorank analyzed 2 million French search results pages from 9 to 14 September 2026. It found that 51 percent of searches show an AI Overview, and 49 percent of those loaded after the initial page. That means the first HTML only contains an empty block. The share rises on long-tail queries, reaching about 58 percent below 1,000 annual searches, and those queries make up about 88 percent of the sample. Marketers who track AI Overview citations should check that their tools run the page and repeat the secondary request. If they do not, they will not know which sites are cited.
OpenAI is testing an AI-native ad format in ChatGPT, according to Digiday. Clicking a call to action opens a chat with the advertiser's own AI agent instead of sending the user to the brand's website. Wayfair has confirmed it is taking part in the sponsored-agent test. OpenAI chief financial officer Sarah Friar told a Goldman Sachs conference that the text ads now shown beneath answers in the free and Go plans are only a basic starting point. Marketers buying ChatGPT ads should plan for a conversation inside the ad and be ready to supply a brand agent that answers product questions, rather than treating a website landing page as the destination.
Stripe says it is making three changes to Link to help personal agents move through checkout and to build consumer trust in the purchases agents make. The post says agent builders asked for help with both as agents take on more buying. Marketers should expect Link to be a supported path for agent-initiated purchases and test their checkout with agent buyers as well as human ones.
OpenAI announced Dots on 29 September 2026. Dots are autonomous AI agents powered by GPT-6 Astra with a cloud computer and browser that work continuously, connect to more than 4,000 applications through OpenAI's plugin ecosystem and stay reachable in ChatGPT, by SMS, on Slack, on Teams or by voice call. The first Dot is included at no extra cost in Pro and Business Premium plans in eligible markets, while Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare customers get beta access if an administrator turns it on. Marketers who want agents to find and use their product should watch how services get listed in this plugin ecosystem, because that is how the first Dots pick their tools.
Google and Uberall explain how local businesses can get ready for AI search in a piece that also covers where Google says AI search is heading and five local marketing strategy fixes. The fixes include accurate Business Profiles, relevant content, responses to reviews, and measurement at the location level. Marketers with physical locations should treat Business Profile accuracy and location-level measurement as the first things to fix.
At DevDay 2026 OpenAI presented Dots, always-on agents built on GPT-6 Astra, strengthened Codex, opened new collaborative spaces in ChatGPT and added enterprise features including privacy controls, a marketplace and AWS integrations. The company's stated aim is to turn the assistant into an operating layer for work, software and business processes. For marketers the practical question is whether the new marketplace and agent connections become another place where products must be listed to be found by AI assistants.
OpenAI announced more than 20 product updates at its DevDay 2026 event in San Francisco, led by Dots, an always-on agent that runs on its own cloud computer, connects to more than 4,000 apps and can work inside Slack and Teams. OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, an Ultrafast mode for Codex and an agents API that supports computer use, and said about 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT. Expect the assistants customers use to open apps and finish tasks on their behalf, which makes pages and product data that a machine can read and act on a part of the marketing job.
A column looks at Amazon's block on Meta's Muse agent and says robots.txt played no part. Any site can write the block-page sentence Amazon used into its own terms, and telling an agent apart from a shopper is the hard part. It is analysis of an event already reported.
Ahead of China's National Day holiday, Doubao added flight and train booking, ride hailing and navigation to its assistant, on top of hotel and restaurant booking. Users can describe a trip in natural language and have the assistant call the service. The feature works with partners including 航班管家, 高铁管家, 曹操出行 and 百度地图 for supply, pricing and navigation. Travel and local marketers should expect more booking requests to arrive through assistant conversations and check that their inventory and prices reach the partners Doubao calls.
