Bing Copilot: a patent details how AI engines sort web sources

A Microsoft Technology Licensing patent application published Aug. 13, 2026, US20260236548A1, describes compressing search-result data so it fits inside a generative model's token limit. To summarize a page it keeps the sentences most connected to the rest of the text and to the query, favors sentences in the introduction or conclusion, and filters by freshness and a reputation score built from accuracy history, domain authority and peer validation. The patent does not show that Bing or Copilot apply the system as described.
